This is the year of the roof
I'm putting a new roof on the house this month. Not just the shingle, I'm getting it built from the trusses up.
Needless to say it's $$$$$$$$$$$. Wish me luck.

Ouch. You're gonna need more money than luck.

Now's the time to run structured cable if you have a future need for it.

Yeah, after I finish the exterior trim painting I have to redo a 6' x 13' roof over the kitchen porch. Need to patch the huge front porch roof again. And the bay section of the house gets a new roof in the spring. Lucky the main roof is good, I guess. At least I have a compressor and roof nailer.

This was my thread. LOL! http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/open-discussion/174635-flat-roof-houses.html Yeah it's $$$$$$ to do the roof. Fuq! Guess I'll pull out my Minnesota attitude and just go "Oh well, could be worse."

Fun, fun, fun! Roofs suck because there's no tangible enjoyment of the finished project. Other than the accompanying dryness.
I was going to have to tackle the relatively flat roof on our shed dormer this year but thanks (?) to the fire situation and deciding to put an addition on while the house is gutted and we're not in it, we'll end up with a brand new pitched roof in its place.

One of my biggest water issues is from the chimneys. They are high and at least one will take a custom cap I think. If it rains just right, water just squirts out of the wall below one of them.
Bay section (and the box gutters on it) are the other big problem. |

Stripping to trusses introduces the possibility of strapping them and a steel roof sometimes. Asthetically steel roofs are not always pleasant but there is no denial they last.

This would be an excellent time ot frame up some rafters and convert to a sloped roof. I grew up in a house with a flat roof, they're nothing but trouble.

Most do not like flat roofs. That's from the aspect of redoing them.

I've been house shopping and the insurance company I contacted for a quote won't insure anything with a flat roof.
