It's 15 years old. What you might gain on a good engine you will lose on all the other bits falling off, particularly if you plan to tow 9,000 lbs. on a regular basis.

The badging is not a 100% indicator, the build date is more accurate. But, most likely a late '99. Good!

99 F-350 Transport truck has 343,000 miles on it and still pulls like new. IT's had a beefier shift pack put in it's trans. other than that and some performance tweakings it's been a mostly reliable truck sans a frozen brake caliper last year

Looked into that, and it's another $15-20k to do it correctly.

I'm good off that. Maybe if I weren't so deep into my truck, but where I am right now, nah....

So what are you going to do? Trade the 6.4 off for a 7.3? Or are you going to buy the 7.3 just for towing?

Sell engine from 6.4 for part cash and part trade for a fresh crate engine, then sell the truck. Buy the 7.3 for towing, camping, etc.

Guy at the local Ford dealer is interested in it. He's willing to give me some $$$+crate engine from Ford+pay for the swap to get my engine. I'll be losing some money on the engine, but should be able to make it up by selling my truck.

Why are you dumping a built engine for a crate engine?
