Worldwide map of speed limits
I seem to remember that the speed limit on the KC turnpike was 85 at one time. Or is my memory not quite right?

At one time Montana (or Nevada) had a speed limit of "Reasonable and prudent". Supposedly, the local Magistrate decided if your speed was......or wasn't.
BTW: It's the Kansas Turnpike.

OK Kansas Turnpike. Been a while since I've been down that road.

Time to move to the Northern Territory of Australia. I don't speak German.
With some other states upping their limits maybe Nevada will try to stay with the times. I know there are some upcoming bills in the state legislature regarding increasing speed limits.

Drove across Nevada in 1966 with my parents in a 1964 Olds Cutlass with a 425CI engine. Probably averaged over 100mph. I remember looking over and seeing the speedometer pegged. Not sure I'd consider that reasonable and prudent.

I've been across the state a few times. I-80 between Elko and the outskirts of Salt Lake City is pretty much unpatrolled. I've cruised at a steady 95 and was still getting steadily passed. I took US 50 once and kept it in the triple digits probably over half the time from the state line to Fallon. For some reason I got really lousy fuel mileage on that tank

Iirc, MT is going back to that. Wife and I drove to Glacier National Park this past summer and we hummed along around 80. Saw 125 a few times as well.

In other news, there's a petition going on at whitehouse.gov to legalize lane sharing by motorcycles. California has had that for years. Nevada came close last legislative session. I'd love to be able to do it legally.

Skippy, What exactly is "lane sharing by motorcycles"? Is that 2 motorcycles sharing 1 lane or 1 motorcycle and 1 car sharing 1 lane (Yes, I have seen it). I was passed by a motorcycle doing well over 100mph. It went between me an another car. Well that was in South Carolina which explains a lot.

It's the practice of riding a motorcycle in the space in between two cars, also known as lane splitting. When done properly it reduces traffic congestion and cuts down on bikes being rearended by cars.

Thanks, but I always thought that was legal everywhere.

Drove from Las Vegas to Reno with my older sister many years ago in a beat up Subaro wagon with a bent rim. She drove first to demonstrate to me how to drive in the desert with no speed limit:
Rule number 1: Push the go pedal all the way to the floor and keep it there. There are no other rules.
