Microsoft 2010 Office does not recognize printer.

I'm running Windows 7, Office Professional 2010 and a Canon i960 printer. I can print from Adobe Acrobat, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint to the Canon i960. However, when I try to print from MS Word and attempt to "add printer", it displays an "Active Directory Domain Service is not available" error.

So....I went out on the internet and found a possible solution. The solution is:

1. Uninstall the entire MS Office 2010 suite, then reboot the machine.
2. Run the Microsoft Fixit utility, then reboot.
3. Reinstall MS Office 2010, reboot again.

I followed these steps but MS Word still does not see the printer. Any ideas?

Is the Canon your default printer?

Go to Start / Devices and Printers. Do you see your printer listed in there? If you right click on the printer object is "Set as Default Printer" checked?

Yes, the printer shows in Devices and Printers and is set as the default printer. Also, I read on another forum that anti virus software sometimes stops MS Word from seeing the printer. So...I turned off the anti virus and still no joy. I'm running Comodo Internet Security Pro. Any other ideas?

Do you have the latest printer driver from Canon? If not, I would see if it is on Canon's website.

Just downloaded the latest and greatest drivers from Canon, MS Word 2010 still does not recognize the printer. I'm thinking it may be Comodo that is somehow keeping Word from seeing the printer or may be some glitch within Windows 7.........

This. Both Apple and Microsoft need to pull their heads out of their a**. Many people still have a need to play DVD/CDs on their computers. No matter what anyone says, it is nice to have a hard copy of the software on CD. In more than a few instances, CD software saved my bacon; also people get training DVDs from work to take home and play on their computers. Then you have the movie buffs who like to watch DVD movies on their computers. I'm not one of them but that doesn't negate that fact that they want to play DVD movies on their computers. That said, do the Apple boys understand there is STILL a need for a built in DVD/CD player/writer? It doesn't appear they get it; they live in a world where EVERYTHING "lives in the cloud". This one issue has cost Apple LOTS OF $$$$$$ in terms of lost sales to PCs. Hello Apple Marketing? Time to WAKE UP and SMELL THE COFFEE!!!

Then there is the world's greatest word processing software, Word Perfect. Only one problem, it would be a he** of a lot more perfect if a Mac version existed. Again, the morons over at Corel have received many many requests to come out with a Mac version but to no avail. Are they brain dead or what?

Therefore, the rest of us are stuck in the middle with Microtrash. It's a sad life, but somebody has to live it.....

your PC is looking for an AD controller? is this a personal PC or issued from work?

My motto is basically "f**k the cloud with a fire axe." But I don't lament the loss of DVD drives on Apple computers one bit. You can get an external DVD drive for anywhere from $30 to $80.

And the slot-loading drives on recent Apple computers were awful. Prone to jamming, scratching DVDs, and refusing to eject. Almost worse than not having a DVD drive :)
