so much for that...

dads ford focus had appeared to have blown a head gasket a few weeks back. it was running like total **** and then flat wouldnt run. Its been sitting at my house awaiting the work to be done. I decided last week that I was going to fix it and bring it home to him on christmas morning. That is, until I took the head off today.

Really bad news. I sometimes buy and sell cars. Even though I got ford focus models very reasonable at one time in good condition .I felt bad about reselling them even cheap.

It was just a feeling that the new owners where going to have lots of issues. Well another engine should be cheap enough for your dads car but I still dislike them.

Hopefully you're on the Russian Christmas calendar and you have an extra $6k burning a hole in your pocket.

Its been a really good car. This seems to have just been a catastrophic failure. I have a line on a good used motor for $500. We may go that route. I have never seen a failure like that on a grocery getter.

If he's the type who keeps the radio blaring at all times, I could believe it.

Last time I saw that kind of engine damage, the Lotus F1 team was involved.

How do you get $ 6K ? Used engines are sub $ 750 and I could have this car running in a day or two. ( And yes I've done it on too many cars to count )

well i have 2 focus and will tell you just what your problem was and is "the 2.0 sohc"this motor is a boat anchor do not replace it.they are horrendous for dropping valveseats.and if you look at that intake valve it looks like its bent slightly ,they are super brittle.what happens is it drops and gets busted into small pieces then gets pumped back thru the intake and into other cylinders.usually all cylinders look like that.your best bet it to find a wrecked 2.0 dohc z-tec.these motors are pretty much bullit proof.BUT to do the swap you need to take the whole under hood wiring harness and computer, this harness also extends under the pass side carpet and under the back seat, thru a grommet and to the gas tank.you also need the key from the donor car as there is a chip in the key that needs to be swapped to your key.1 of mine had a blown 2.0 sohc when i got it.i found a wagon with a z-tec that was lightly rearended.took and dropped the whole front subframe,:engine, trans, hubs, etc and swapped the whole thing.took me about 3 days of off and on to swap.plus i got a whole car of odds and end parts to save

ding ding ding, you hit it on the head. I went out and examined the valves and the seat is missing from the intake seat. pieces of the seat were sitting on top of the piston when i took the head off. i noticed a 45* bevel on them and was trying to figure out what the hell i was looking at.

actually no, he rarely listens to the radio and is actually pretty mechanically inclined. he swears it sounded fine when he got to home depot.
