I don't see why they are making you explain what you intend to do with a title-less, un-armored hummer. Un-armored, and armored H1s have been available to the public since the early 1990s.

I haven't looked at used civilian hummers lately but my dads friend is a dealer and picked up a 1997 H1 wagon for around $17,500. On the road, with a title, and an interior. I don't think ~$10,000-$15,000 for a bare bones H1 with no paperwork is a deal.

Probably just to satisfy some rule. Could be as simple as I (do)/(do not) intend to export this piece of equipment.

They have this program because the 6.5 needs to be replaced regularly. Its on the low end of adequate running an unarmored humvee. I cant even imagine what its like with a fully armored and armed truck full of equipment!

Popping them is a military pastime

Can the engines be replaced with something more robust?

Looks like someone makes a Cummins 6BT kit.

Ive seen a duramax swapped one. Was pretty sweet. Then again, i thought the 6.5 was crammed in there, the duramax takes the concept of crammed to a new level

Is it a 6bt or 4bt kit? Id love to see how the cummins fits!

I've seen them with 4BTs and 6BTs, the 6 is pretty long for the way the H1 engine bay is set up, for such a big vehicle the engine bay has always seem super tight to me.

The 2006 H1 Alphas had Duramaxes from the factory.

to me it was a sin, but I just saw an episode of overhauling where they redid CNN's hummer from Iraq. The one the reporters used. They were gonna show it off then auction it for charity.

Brace yourself, this will hurt, they put a 454 in it.

AM General now produces a very robust version of the 6.5 called a P400. i would think it should be an easy swap, although it would need a different pan since the engine has a bedplate.

Some were built with Vortec 350s. I have seen a couple with big block swaps. I don't know if the gassers were civilian or military though. Never seen a small block one in the flesh.

I saw that too. I totally agree, make the thing authentic. If you dont want to put a fresh 6.5 in there, choose some other military spec diesel motor.

Instead they hot rodded it, which was annoying.

Loved the artwork on the truck, did not appreciate the motor swap or foose chrome bling rims. Just didnt work for me on a military vehicle that saw combat service

And a body lift. Raise the center of gravity and gain nothing.

But it will attract attention I guess.

A built diesel that just whistles at idle would have been way cooler. PTO winch, external cage, led lighting, night vision, I could dream up ideas for days.

My sister submitted me, I don't think they are into diesels.

I'm vaguely remembering gas models now.

a 454 wouldn't be a bad swap, conceptually. tough engines that have been in many industrial and marine applications. that is of course, unless they hot rodded it up with a tunnel ram and multiple carbs.

big block chevys are tough engines, in many ways tougher than 6.5s.....

I agree its not a bad choice for a motor, it just didnt seem right on that CNN thing, which was about where that truck had been, not turning it into something it wasnt.

Were it me, id have rebuilt the original engine that moved that truck in combat, restored it to original condition, then applied the artwork. Any battle damage i would have highlighted like they do on some tank restorations. To me that would have made it more valuable as a historical artifact.

Now its a foose interpretation

I'd mount a modern 6L or 6.2 Vortec in the thing, way better than an old 454.
