Chickens are pretty awesome, my old lady keeps a flock of around 30. They are pretty smart and have a lot of personality. I've read that they can recognise up to 150 different faces.
The chicken you buy at the store is a franken-bird that aren't even able to grow to adulthood without heath problems. Farm raised birds are an order of magnitude more delicious and healthy for you. The eggs are amazing too, and I don't even eat eggs. However if I am making pasta there is no substitute for eggs laid that day.
