For you old diesel people, avoid these roads

Wait . . . are you intimating that diesels aren't fast? Harrumph . . . .

Emphasis on old. I have one.

Oh, I thought you were calling the owners old . . . or is that redundant?

No, that their drivers are half fast.

You sir have a half full glass there. Need to work on that. And I didn't think about that, as I'm a 30 year old with a 220D. |

I'ma 45 yo with a 99 E300 that is barely acceptable after being chipped and a Powerstroke 7.3 that is modified but the older diesels definitely are NOT appealing, acceleration wise. Glad I use the Powerstroke as a 2nd car in winter and moved the W210 to business only use. Much happier with the W140 for cruising and in summer, the Vette.

Well ... you should have plenty of time to think about it ... when accelerating

What's wrong with the aroma of stale farts, cigar smoke and petroleum?

I'll have you know that my 78 300SD is perfectly quick off the line.
Granted, my frame of reference starts with a 1.6L Miata. And the 300SD has been on a serious weight loss program (ALTO: "Added Lightness Through Oxidation").

Some interesting roads in that article. The Isle of Man and New Zealand shots especially. The IOM is a bit of a trip. Their big motorcycle race maybe the most macho display of speed and thumbing of nose at danger outside of extreme skiing. You can see video of spectators perhaps a few feet away from bikes going 200mph.
To a list of fast highways I would add the road going south from Oregon to Winnemucca, NV. I drove it once after Christmas a few years back. Very straight and remote highway. At one point while doing about 80, a late model Mercedes 5 or 6 liter passed me at some speed. Did see them again. I took it up to 110 in my 325i a bit later. Roads were wet, not icy:
