Everyone has their price. But why was I thinking this was going to be like that groin kicking thing to settle an argument?

Pretty interesting. Buying off an execution doesn't strike me as a very good idea. But having a relation of the victim involved could be helpful. I wonder what the ratio of people who forgive to people who don't is, in Iran.

Interesting story. That bit about the mother having the option of kicking away the chair is a trip.

So now Balal the Forgiven One can get in another street fight, stab the other guy, kill him and...it starts all over again?

Wonder how that would work in a US 'hood....

Well, think of it this way. What is a certain item worth? Well, if it is a rusty sword, WGAS. We will pay you what that item is currently selling for. So say a fair appraised value is $100, is that a fair price? One could say so since it is market value. OTOH, what if that item worth to YOU if it were just a rusty sword that your beloved Grandpa used in WW1 and a momento? Suddenly, $200 doesn't cover it. So it might not be all bad if you had a say in whether to let it go for $100 or whether you think the punishment should be at max level.

Only if you consider anger a bad emotion. What if that anger did something in the "right" direction? What if I was a lazy slob that was kicked around by my boss till I got pissed, decided to go to school, get my education done, come back and buy the company and fire his ass? Maybe that anger lit a fire under my lazy ass and gave me the determination to move on and better myself. Would it still be considered bad? I think not.

Yes, many here think of you as a role model. Uh, some. Maybe a few. Or maybe not . . .

Who knows, I suspect the experience would have changed him somewhat.

Who knows. People do sometimes learn from their mistakes.
