Bought the wife a new car
No guessing games here. No pics either yet, it's raining and dark. Subaru Crosstrek. She drove it home yesterday from the stealership. 75 miles over a steep and twisty climb with me following in the Element. Says she's in love. Got a good deal on it as it's a year-end '14.
My eyes are still watering at new car prices, good deal or not. Edit. SNOWING, not raining.

I looked at those online- very enticing. Is it a CVT?

It's a CVT. They had no manuals left in stock in the '14s and the pipeline of 15s apparently hasn't filled yet. They had one fully optioned 15 but it was way over my cheapskate comfort zone.
We took turns on driving it home and I actually like the trans just fine. The Element's auto hunts around like crazy on the Prescott-Jerome hill climb road. I tried out the paddle shifters...pretty nifty but in full auto mode it did just fine. Seats down I can probably get a goat and a half in it but with seats OUT I can get three in the Element. Wife doesn't even like to hear me joke about it.

LOL, I put a young doe and a young ram (sheep) in the back seat of my Suzuki Aerio once. Didn't live that down for a while

Back when the Element was brand new, I had two does that came into heat at the same time. These were 175 lb. full sized dairy does. There was a buck about 50 miles away I wanted to breed them to. My truck decided to balk on me right at the wrong moment. The wife was out of town, so I pulled the seats out of the back of the Element and lined the back with a painters drop cloth, threw the two girls in the back and off we went. I left the two overnight with their new boyfriend and returned the next day to retrieve them. They both, of course, stank to high heaven of buck. Buck-stink is memorable to say the least. Washed down the Element's rubberized interior with Skunk-Off, put the seats back in and to this day SWMBO has never suspected a thing.

I guess the wifey didn't agree to the idea of spending a bunch of money on the Element so she can drive it for many more years? Hopefully before you spent all the $$$$.

Prescott to Jerome
That's God's country driving Prescott to Jerome. Did that drive once when we decided to take the back roads to the Grand Canyon. Will never forget the scenery nor the old jail that slid down the hill in Jerome. How long have you been making the drive?
Congrats making the wife happy. Lord knows it takes a lot some days.....like a new car. What dealership?

What people pay for some new cars floors me. Of course our dog spends part of the time in my daily driver. I would hate to cart him around in a spotless new car. That dog sheds hair like crazy. So much so I do not want other people in that car. |
