Ice on Lake michigan

Today we drove up to Laporte for something my Mrs. wanted then went to our favorite antique malls in southern Michigan and in the process went through New Buffalo. As we neared it we spotted that there was considerable ice on the lake. We decided to investigate. When we got to the park next to the harbor we discovered that broken ice has piled up about a quarter mile out forming mountainous piles looking like a cross between dunes and ice dams. The piles must be 40 to 50' tall. It was a surreal sight. We climbed up to an observation deck up on the dune and could see patches of clear water between the ice floes and noticed that the flows were moving east along the shore.

The picture is not mine. I couldn't figure out how to work my phone camera and the Mrs. left her fancy phone at home.;)
