Same could be argued about me speeding on a road, seeing a cop, slow down to speed limit. In a word, DETERRENCE. Deterrence to others who would do similar things to perhaps your family's young kids or even adults who don't want to see it in public.

In a playground with minors watching? Again, unless you feel people should be comfortable with that and we can do that in front of minors OF YOUR FAMILY.

Speeding actually endangers the public. Schtupping on a rooftop, not so much.

Speeding is typically a fine. The two charges are both jail misdemeanors. Charges don't fit the level of danger to the public, or rather, lack of danger.

I spent a lot of time down the shore with my grandmother growing up, in a town known for a fair number of hippies and bikies. I saw a couple going at it on the beach while walking on the boardwalk with grandma more than once. My eyeballs didn't fall out nor did I grow hair on my palms.

The town didn't have its own police force, but was patrolled by the cops from two towns over, who had better things to do (their home base was sort of a slum), so it's unlikely anyone got arrested.

Perhaps so but I suspect he isn't a business owner whose business can be negatively affected by such displays. When that happens, you can bet our tough guy will be kissing the cops' ass to stop the hemorrhage of his business.

Why call the cops when a hose will do? Stream from a nozzle will easily reach up to the roof, and I suspect they'd go somewhere else after getting a sudden cold shower. "Sorry, I was watering the plants, must have slipped for a moment there." If it works for dogs that are going at it, it'll work equally well for humans.

When I had two drunken dudebros talking loudly and peeing outside my (2nd story) window at 3 am a few weeks ago, I didn't call the cops -- just filled a garbage bag with ice water and dropped it on them. Result was predictably hilarious.

How so? I am a better driver and thus should be able to go faster than some kid or grandpa who can barely stomp on the brake. So maybe we should say "The speed limit is based off how well you score on the annual test."

Well, not exactly. Try it sometime. See your demerit points rack up and lose your license. What's that? Space it out? Sure. Habitual Traffic Offender and lose your license.

Thank G-d that NY state doesn't assign points for out-of-state tickets, only for ones in Canada

Tell it to the judge when you are considered a sex offender for doing it in front of a bunch of kids on a playground. Tell him "Well, growing up......", see if he or the jury will care. Decades ago, you got busted for DUI and the cop scolds you and lets you go. Today, it is more serious. Why? Don't care. It is.

Exactly why I wouldn't report it -- I wouldn't want to be responsible for someone being marked for life for what's essentially a minor indiscretion. And if I saw someone else calling it in, I might report it as happening on the other side of town so as to divide the forces of order.

Not my responsibility to facilitate the enforcement of Draconian laws. In fact, I might consider benign hindrance to be a civic responsibility.

What's the worse outcome: having someone's job prospects and possibly ability to even get a home ruined by an overly harsh law, or someone MAYBE seeing two people doing what humans are designed to do?

Hey, if you are all for taking the law into your own hands AS A PRINCIPLE, fine. I get offended with you and I take whatever action I feel necessary. We dispute on a debt, I break your kneecaps. No cops, no court, no paperwork. That work for you? I suspect it will work for you ONLY WHEN IT IS IN YOUR FAVOR.

It is until they decide to do something back to you. I might find it hilarious if they popped a few rounds at you too. More funny is if they get hurt and decide to sue. Win, lose or draw, you lose when you are dragged into the system. As I said, funny when they just walk off, more funny to me if you get the short end of the stick.

If you can't see the distinction between giving someone a cold shower and maiming them for life, I pity you. Besides, no one squirted them with water. Someone just tripped while cleaning the sidewalk and the hose happened to squirt into the air

The fact that young Romeo and Juliet happen to relocate to dryer climes is just a side benefit.

Question. Do you even think you can function with your company if there is no order? I don't. You couldn't hold a job with no order. I might commission a job and refuse to pay. You only want order if it favors you much like "I want my rights" people who don't want the responsibility that goes with it.

No different from people who value say free speech until it is an idea they don't like, is it?

Again, it is very easy to say when it isn't your hide that is affected. When it is your restaurant and people are not frequenting it, we can discuss your opinion then.
