What I found amazing was that the teams have any control over the footballs at all. The refs keep the kicking balls under their control at all times but not the qb balls? That's likely going to change.

Al Davis - notorious Oakland Raiders owner and then coach - was supposedly known for sending in underinflated(WAAAAY underinflated) balls when the other teams offense took the field.

They are looking at the wrong game. The Pats were far more worried over the Ravens than the Colts. Ravens even tipped off the Colts to look for the under-inflated balls. Cheating has a greater impact in a close ( 4 point) game than in a blow-out.
Belichek has never been seriously punished for his past violations; Ray Rice paid a greater price for a single, OFF FIELD , violation than New England has for repeated cheating.

None of the Colts pigskins seem to have suffered a loss of psi due to ambient temperatures . . .

Almost had to be intentional. They say the balls were about 2 pound low. We don't know if they were tested in the coldest possible out doors (~ 50 F) or after warming up inside somewhere. Even if they were originally tested at the min 12.5 psi for temperature to be the culprit they would have had to be about 95F at testing time. That couldn't have happened accidentally. If they had warmed up indoors for testing it gets even worse.

I don't think that the Pats'/Belichick's proven or alleged shenanigans with a game rise to the same level as Ray Rice's chicken $h!t sucker punching of his fiance/future wife to the point of unconsciousness, but maybe that's just me.

Billy threw Tommy under the bus.......News conference 4pm.
They should forfeit the game, Brady should be banned from the Hall of Fame. No difference here to Charley Hussle. |

The irony is that if the bus tires weren't underinflated, the bus would have cleared his prone body without causing injury...

Historically, I've never cared much for the Patriots. However, the GF is from Massachusetts, so I've gained a little interest, and I've always liked Tom Brady anyway.
While I'm never one to support those who like to break the rules, particularly in a competition since it may render the competition uneven, in this case I think it's overblown (as opposed to underinflated). Yes, I think there should be consequences, both to the team, the management and the owner. Did it make any difference in the outcome of the game? Well, only if it granted the Pats some kind of mental/psychological edge ("hey, we are using underinflated balls and no one knows!!!! Whoeeee!!!"). In any event, even were I not in a relationship with a staunch Patriots fan, I'd be rooting for them on SBS anyway. (I am sorry that the Packers collapsed so badly and gave that game to the 'hawks...had it been Packers/Pats my GF and I could have had a friendly wager about that outcome,) |
