How are, in general, the drivers in the area in which you live? Good? Bad? Agressive? Dumbass?

I have to say, after having lived in some very high traffic areas of the country, and the countryside with its easy traffic patterns, Wichita has a high percentage of aggressive, ******* drivers. People will cut you off, don't yield properly and challenge your every move. All this in a realtively small 300,000+ city w/o any real traffic challenges. People actually speed up sometimes when you are trying to pull out from a side street.

As heavy as DFW and OKC traffic was, there was some sense of traffic flowing along with unspoken cooperation. None of that here in Toto land...

Honolulu: Most of the time the "Aloha Spirit" prevails, however the combination of tourist drivers and visitors from RHD countries (Japan, Australia) can make it challenging in a town with a lot of one way avenues and streets. Moderate amount of bad behavior, but because traffic on the highways, on an island, is so congested, it's better to adopt a "we're all in this together" way to thinking.

Phoenix: Compared to Honolulu, higher level of use of turn signals, but only when stopped for a turn. So, lane changes and in-motion turns are in stealth mode. Also the roads and parking spaces here are so much wider than in Hawaii and in much better physical condition. With the removal of most of the highway speed cameras, there's no shortage of NASCAR type drafting and passing moves. Like Hawaii, people here don't know how to drive in rain; and like Hawaii, the use of the horn isn't widely practiced as aggressively as on the urban Atlantic side of the country.

i have noticed here in St Louis that more of the aggressive driving i see is in the "nicer" parts of st Louis or out in the suburban oasis that is st Charles county(seems similar to Wichita) which seem to jive up with what the OP stated about Wichita drivers so maybe it is a socio/economic thing

WE don't have that many aggressive drivers. I am toward that end of the spectrum a bit. Some real asleep at the wheel types but that is minority too. IN my Montero with the plow attached I drive like a grandpa.

Tailgating is a sport hereabouts and posted speeds are just suggestions. Red lights too. Aggressive dipshlts abound. I like to drive the posted speed just to increase their blood pressure. If I've contributed in some small way to the seepage of blood from their tiny brains I'm a happy camper.

It depends. From where I live headed south, no one knows what an accelerator pedal is used for. Lane courtesy is a foreign concept. Many people can't be bothered get up to the speed limit, regardless of what lane they're in. Of course, many of these "drivers" assume that everyone else drives as slow as they do, so having people pull right out in front of me is a fairly common thing. I go to work one town south of me in the afternoon and come back in the middle of the night. Because of the traffic it takes about 24 minutes to get to work and 15 or less to get home.

OTOH, go about a mile and a half north and everyone suddenly remembers how to drive. All the way into Reno traffic tends to flow a nice 10-20 over, and if you come up fast on someone going slower in the fast lane, they will usually let you by.

Most drivers in the US are good drivers.

How can i say this?
Because the a-holes are a sufficient minority that we notice each and every one.

If any of us lived a place where crazy driving was the norm, like urban India, it wouldnt be comment worthy

Drivers here just like to be in front. Once they get there they slow down and someone else will race to the front. Its a dangerous cycle. Fun to watch from a distance.

Some creepy, crazy balding 50-something year old in his new Chevy 4-door pick up, was all European with his crazy arm gestures this morning in the Walmart Supercenter parking lot. Not sure what the nutcase's problem was but he was going drama-queen because he had to turn the pickup's steering wheel half a turn to drive around a stopped minivan, and my gorgeous Mercedes-Benz sedan that was stopped, sos he could get by. The world would be a much better place without the crazies on the street, and that's a fact.

Worst place I have ever been in terms of drivers is Sandy Springs, GA, which is an upscale area north of Atlanta. My brother, a friend , and I went up through there to get to a Mercedes yard. People would pull out into the intersection in heavy traffic while there was no way for them to clear the intersection before the light changed. That happened at almost every intersection we got to. That meant the traffic would back up even more because the intersection was now blocked and you had to wait for a few cycles of the light for that one or two people to get out of the intersection so people could actually go through.

We were sure we were going to get into an accident with all of these idiots out on the roads and sure enough, a driver who was jutting out into the intersection started backing up and honking the horn and yelling at us to back up, which we couldn't because there was no space for anyone in our lane to back up unless the car in the way back wanted to block the previous intersection 1/8 mile behind us. We finally got the light when the intersection was cleared of cars and the lady who had been yelling at us to back up forgot to put her car back in drive and backed into us. It was hard enough to find a place to pull over to access the damage. Fortunately, there was no damage so we calmed the other driver down, told her it was okay (she had her fast food uniform on and was pretty frazzled so we assumed she was just having a bad day), and went on our way.
