Good Lord. That's horrifying.

Wow! The guy in the cab must have felt lucky to survive (assuming he did).

kerry 02-04-2015 04:04 PM

Holy crap. It's hard to believe anyone survived that.

kerry 02-04-2015 04:08 PM

Did the pilot bank the plane to miss an electric tower before heading to the river? Looked to me like he might have in that NBC video.

Dubyagee 02-04-2015 04:12 PM

Sad for the loss of life.

That cab driver needs to play the lottery. Can you imagine the call to his insurance?

INSIDIOUS 02-04-2015 04:15 PM

Almost looks as if the left prop isn't spinning?

kerry 02-04-2015 04:17 PM

My thought also.

rscurtis 02-04-2015 04:29 PM

If you stop the original video at certain points, it appears that the port engine is windmilling, while the starboard engine is still running. That could account for why the left wing dropped.

I'd say yes, but if the one prop was not spinning the torque of the other engine could turn the plane too.

ramonajim 02-04-2015 04:35 PM

I've read a couple reports that the pilot had called a mayday and stated "engine flameout."

Can't Know 02-04-2015 04:41 PM

My guess is that he had a problem with the plane and was trying to get to the river a la Sully Sullenberger.

That cab driver survived. Had he been in the right hand lane, I don't think he would have.

This is the cab the plane clipped:
