Wow! The guy in the cab must have felt lucky to survive (assuming he did).

Did the pilot bank the plane to miss an electric tower before heading to the river? Looked to me like he might have in that NBC video.

If you stop the original video at certain points, it appears that the port engine is windmilling, while the starboard engine is still running. That could account for why the left wing dropped.

I'd say yes, but if the one prop was not spinning the torque of the other engine could turn the plane too.

I've read a couple reports that the pilot had called a mayday and stated "engine flameout."

My guess is that he had a problem with the plane and was trying to get to the river a la Sully Sullenberger.

That cab driver survived. Had he been in the right hand lane, I don't think he would have.
