Have you tried doing that with 8.1? Its tied to your motherboard now.

Radio Shack was pricey. But it was convenient when I needed some little special electronic widget, connector etc... in a hurry.
No Frys here on our backwards East Coast, and it's not very convenient for me to pop over to Texas or points beyond, so I guess I'll have to shop online or stock up at local flea-markets/hamfests, etc...
Problem is sometimes I need to actually see and handle whatever device I'm looking for to know that it's availible and that it will work. Kind-of hard to do that online!

Happy Motoring, Mark

If you built your own or bought a naked computer and bought the OEM key yourself, it will let you reinstall on a different mobo -- it might just require a call to M$ if you make a habit of it.

I can't speak to hardware that came with 8.1 pre-installed -- not sure if the key embedded in firmware would work for activation on a different motherboard.

Half tempted to fill that out and send it in. Scary part is they would probably offer me a job.

Isn't that what sales is about? I'd fire my salesman if he tried to only sell what the customer wants. It is his job to make the customer want to buy $10 of stuff when he came in to get $5.

Then why do I need him to sell at all? Might as well put a kiosk there like Proactiv does at the mall. Much cheaper too

Depends. If selling what the customer wants brings him or her back a second time then it's worth it.

Example, I went into a bike shop earlier this year and made it clear I had a budget of a thousand bucks for a new bike, period. Guy tried to sell me a last year model which was marked at 1250, "we will work with your budget". I go back the next day and mention it, tell them I am interested...no discount no interest in working anything, just the 1250. Not going back, they wasted my time.

Edit: forgot about this edit so it took me an hour

Yes your right . But having worked retail for 30 years I just want to be left alone . I suppose there are people that appreciate the help . But Fry ( CC was ) is high pressure sales people obviously on commission . I don't care for that myself . But I expect my employees to sell crap .

Worth it to whom? In the old days, you bet. Today, I am skeptical. Would you go back there to buy from that salesman only? Would he still be there? Look at the car world. The guy selling GM today might be across the street selling Toyota tomorrow. So when you come back looking for your next GM, the guy might be out of state by then. I feel it is part of being a mobile society. Makes us realize that tomorrow might not come. In Grandpa's day, you graduated, went to work at the facility and retired with a gold watch. Today, you change 5 jobs in a year.

That said, thank you very much but I'll make the quick sale here today and spend it on Ho Hos and Twinkies. Tomorrow might never come for me here.

Yes. I (and many of my friends) are loyal to places with great service.

I suppose. That's why I was never into sales.
