It is sort of incredible that one car in a 59 car catalog represented ~80% of the total gross sales of the auction.

If there any envious americans viewing the results, they should get serious about collecting, there's still lots of great deals on 75 yr old stuff out there in less dilapidated shape, and almost as rare- even if it was made by henry's factories.

Not just Henry, but think of all the bowtie cars that had huge V8's in them with the Super Sport packages, including station wagons, that are potentially diamonds in the rough as opposed to Camaros and Corvettes.

( or what kinda appears to be mid thirties pickups), main rule people should go by is stick with what you like. old fords, ---this is so easy for me, there' only two I want, a 34 3 window coupe or a slightly custom woody wagon. Both could be put together with all repop steel , or hard maple. I do know of a swwet 39 Mercury convertible stashed away. Last edited by panZZer; 02-10-2015 at 08:10 PM. |

As for the Ferrari, that is a very very rare and very very desirable California spider with the very desirable covered headlights which may make it the only one which came from the factory that way. They have been in the mid millions for some time. Its a very low production very valuable car. Of course they promoted it. You gotta have people show up for the sale. ![]()

So go pick them up for 30,000 euro and take them to auction, with the fees you'd still be well ahead.
Also old ≠ valuable. Some of those 75 year old American cars will continue to be worth nothing. While their current value may be higher than their original sale price, once you look at inflation they are still huge losers.

Collectable status does not typically favor high production numbers. The early Ferrari that fetches millions were low triple digit production.

In some cases single digit production!
That's what has always surprised me about Mercedes 300SLs, they are relatively speaking, a very high production car. There were entire decades where Ferrari didn't make 3,300 cars.
