It's not just "classics"!

Quote:
The new legislation – which comes into effect in July – is an attempt to improve air quality in the capital that will initially target coaches, buses and lorries registered before 30 September 2001. From July this year, these vehicles will be unable to enter the city centre from 8am-8pm, though they will still be able to use the Pérphérique.

The 8am-8pm ban is expected to be extended by July 2016 to include all cars registered before 31 December 1996.
Quote:
The government's ultimate aim is to ban any diesel vehicles registered before 2011 and motorcycles produced before 2015 within the space of five years.
So, basically, the poor will suffer?

Remember that good smog controls in Europe came much later than in the US.

Don't worry, France has very restrictive / cryptic gun laws so it isn't like they are going to lose something by doing nothing.

I'd think that there are few buses in the city center that are over 14 years old.

What poor? France is a socialist country, that kind of thing can't happen there. With a 35 hour work week, Euro 9.53 / $ 10.85 minimum wage, universal health care things should be great right? ( RE. . " We don't have those kind of people in Iran. . ."

Its a pretty sad day with you can't drive a Citroen DS in Paris, De Gaulle would be appalled.

I bet when Cugnot drove his steam traction wagon into town there were folks that whined about the smoke from the coal being burned.

And... The Steam traction engine was invented because some French General didn't like the smell of the horses that were pulling all the wagons.

You know what else I'm struck by? The pictures in the article. Looking at them, you'd imagine that only people suffering from this law are owners of classic Ferraris and pristinely restored Fiat 500s.

The title is misleading. Cars titled/registered as 'historic' can still access the city center.
