Never trust students with the simplest of tasks
Instructed 4-5 students to carefully load junk wood into the back of my truck since they couldn't stay focused on doing any other task I have them. Told them to lay it in the bed, not throw or toss and be mindful of the glass Not 10 minutes later I see this. Inthe back of my head I knew I should not have had them do this because they all screw around too much. Hopefully the school covers it because a student did it. They already cover vandalism to teacher cars..... New job can't come soon enough |

Look on the bright side, now you can replace the glass with one that has a sliding window instead!
I destroyed a rear window in a comanche i had with a massive spool that rolled forward and smashed out the glass completely. By the time it was fixed and i had opted for the openable rear window, i was glad it had happened

Why do you have students doing what sounds like non-school related tasks for you?
I do not know the details but if my kid came home to me and told me he was loading debris into his/her teachers truck I am pretty sure I'd be having a talk with your principle. So what gives?

I would think materials cleanup might be a fairly important part of a shop curriculum.

Into a personal truck? I would think there would be a dumpster being used.

Good wood goes into the back of a truck so you can burn it, its a waste of tipping fees in a dumpster.
Also its not such a big deal, happens pretty often. Replace it with a sliding glass window.

It may not be teaching math or language arts but I teach these kids valuable skills they can actually use in the real world to get a job. We are building planter boxes from reclaimed pallet wood so broken slats and the nail infested 2x4's we do t use get burned or tossed in a giant dumpster we have on the other side of the school. I don't have a trailer so I use my truck bed, because truck? I had my first period help me load up with no issue. The students actually asked me to bring my truck so we could clean up our mess so I did. Another class I asked a handful of students to do the same since they didn't want to build boxes or take apart pallets so I figured they could help load up the scraps because it was an incredibly simple task for them to do. |

I had them check the tapes to make sure no one did throw the wood or horseplay. If they did then I'd be a bit more mad but whatever.....I'll just load it all up next time myself |

I have a sliding window but never use it. When I locked myself out I checked but had it latched inside.

Definitely a lot more useful for a single cab, but i do enjoy the breeze that comes in the back window during summer
