Network Comedies That Are Doomed to Fail
Because I Like Them. I have a terrible record on picking the critic loved, but viewer rejected shows. This season . . .
1) Blackish - it was a rough start, but now the race specific joke are in the background rather than forefront and it's a better show for it. 2) Fresh Off the Boat - Same issue. Eddie Huang's bio sitcom is not much more than an Asian "Goldbergs" but the cast is much better used. 3) Last Man on Earth - Will Forte plays the survivor of a planetary virus in Tucson. Of course they had to add a woman to the script, and Kristen Schaal plays just the loopy character to make him wish he was alone again. |
You still watch network tv?
I gave up after two failed attempts to sit through an episode of Selfie. |
Still do. I usually give a show four episodes to settle in, I guess my attention span is a little longer. This past season, Bad Judge scored with me as the "Scrubs" of the courtroom genre; could not get into the touted "Marry Me" or "A to Z."

I have not heard of any of those.
Ms and I love watching "big bang" We watch the Daily Show when ever possible. We liked the Colbert Report. Tried the replacement for a few episodes but could not get into it. There are a few other shows I like to watch to to have background noise or to give my brain a rest. |
rest never sleeps

The Goldbergs, Blackish, Big Bang Theory and Modern Family are the sitcoms that we watch regularly, albeit on the DVR. 1-3 episodes at a time, Saturday or Sunday evening. The Mrs. likes Marry Me. It's not terrible but I just haven't been able to get into it. I usually catch up on my Twitter feeds or do some laptop work then.

About the only part of "The Nightly Show" I usually watch is the opening monologue. The panel discussion can be good, but it's inconsistent. Probably the reason I don't watch the Sunday news shows or Mahr.

I despise commercial "TV" and cannot watch it
...because never watched it since 1966.
Plus, I have no TV set at all, though I have nonetheless subject to its horrors now and then in the waiting rooms of new car dealerships, hospital waiting rooms, etc. Makes me want to scream, all this loud noise, people running around ("team sports"), barrages of 1 second images, well dressed people urging me to buy crap I don't want or need, people holding up rolls of toilet paper or cans of motor oil to their face and smiling and telling me to buy buy buy and my life will be perfect when I do. People laughing at things that are not funny. In fact we only read books. Time to get back to H.L. Mencken, now. It's good bye to the sheep in front of their televisions in America.*** *** The BBC is another matter altogether... |

Yes, television has it's ups and downs. Thankfully we're leaving the age of "reality tv" behind and scripted dramas and comedies are coming back. With the advent of Netflix and Amazon original series competing with HBO and Showtime, it's getting hard to pick how to watch. |
ill have to say right now i don't have any "stories" on the TV that i follow, i did enjoy (the first season more so) NBCs Revolution when it was on, but i lean more towards comedy, Arrested Development, Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I also have no cable what ever TV, only rabbit ears, and for a bit was watching METV which is nothing but old TV shows from mostly the 60s early 70s but after awhile it left you feeling...odd
