machu picchu

i could not find my earlier thread of the same name. computer stuff a little diecy here.

We are very happy with our Hostal. It is clean and architecturally interesting in that spare rectangular design style. It is all reinforced concrete including the cantilevered from the wall stairway.

Yesterday we had a nap after lunch. Then we walked to a local restaurant recommended by the lovely and friendly desk lady. We ordered a large sort of a samler of local mostly fish items, including a local specialty ebieche (not sure of the name) which is an assortment of fish pickled in a sauce simlar to pickled herring, a dish similar to the spanish paella with rice and various meats, fried calamari, and a dish which looked sort of like a big mac with a top bunlike thing which looked like yellow compressed mush and a center with a sort of shrimp salad. It was all grand. My grand daughter had a lemonade but would not try anything.

We then took a cab over to the cliff edge to watch the sunset in MMiraflores, which is a very upscale touristy place which looks sort of like a similar type place here but built on the edge of a cliff with shops built under the street, open to a view of the ocean, we did some shopping. I bought a couple of things for Cathy and nearly bought a lovely alpacha blended overcoat which was unbelievable lovely. I could not find one which really fit me and no tailor was availalbe to shorten sleeves (unbelievable). We then had dessert but the grand daughter ordered ravioli, which looked different from any i have seen before but she loved it. i had a coca sour and it seemed to keep me from getting too tired. we came back to the hotel and i slept from 11 til 630 am which is a record for the last ten years i suspect.

today we are going to drive down to the beach and poke around. sat am andrew will arrive at the airport and we will pick him up and drive south to see the nazca lines. }}

the traffic is brutal with everybody flowing around all the time putting their cars a couple of inches apart but so far nobody had hit us yet!

Tom
