Chemex makes a 13 cup unit. That's a lot of pour & wait. The Chemex Ottomatic maxes out at 8 cups and $350

Am I the only one who considers a coffee pot that only makes one cup of coffee to be pretty much useless?

Also, what's the deal with coffee pots being sized in increments of 6 ounces which are then referred to as "cups". The last time I checked a cup as a unit of measure was 8 ounces, and most coffee cups held 12 or so ounces. Why don't they clarify things and just say how many liters of coffee the stupid thing makes?

I guess it gives you fresh coffee each time? I dunno.

Such an easy question. Back in the days of coffee before paper cups, there were actual cups and saucers for the presentation of coffee. To the brim, they held 6 fluid oz.

I only drink two-three cups of coffee a day.

They just happen to be 20 oz. cups.

What are these actual cups and saucers of which you speak?

I finally went and got a gallon of vinegar (under $4), and there was enough to run two pots of it through the machine with a bit left over. I'm presently running a pot of water through for a flush. I'll find out shortly whether it's worked.

It looks like some improvement. The grounds in the basket have still been disturbed more than I'd like, but it's less than before. In a couple of days I'll get to the bottom of the pot and see if there are grounds there.

If the cost of the vinegar is getting too much for you, you can save the stuff you've used once, filter out any chunks, let it cool, and use it again. You could flush that coffee make several times successively and probably really see an improvement.

I usually have two cups a day at the house. My alleged 12 cup pot fills my coffee cup six times, so a pot lasts three days.

You know, you don't have to fill . . . oh never mind.

With summer coming, how about iced coffee?
