Bourbon Buyers, Beware of Crafty New Labels

'Bourbon Empire' Reveals The Smoke And Mirrors Of American Whiskey : The Salt : NPR

Along with enticing branding, some of these bottles of "craft bourbon" boast hefty price tags. Take Pappy Van Winkle, a craft bourbon with "family reserve" editions that retail for thousands of dollars.

For cocktail Friday, I guess I finish off the Bulleit Rye and make some space for some bourbon.

Absolute Raspberry and orange juice. No bourbon tonight, and when I do, it's Makers Mark.

Bourbon today is like Harley-Davidson in the 90's - it's a cool fad for the time. Something new will come along and attentions will turn...

I use Makers Mark mostly for cooking. It's a bit sweet and works well in the kitchen. Helps the cook, too!

I have always loved Bulleit. Makers Mark isn't bad but I like Bulleit better. Knob Creek once in a while is good. I also rather like Pendleton's, thats a smooth bourbon! In fact, im about out of it. Had an itch to try Buffalo Trace too, haven't had it before but heard its good. And also Gibson's Finest. I try to stick the the general price range of the above bourbons. The most expensive I have is a bottle of Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey at $70ish at the time of purchase. Its unique tasting as expected since its not from the bourbon belt but its good stuff!

Skippy~ As for perception: Drive what you like and can afford. Those who don't like it can supply vacuum to one of your components. LOL

If you need parts, I have some!

Trend? I wouldn't relish going back to The limited choices of Bud, Miller or Coors.
