Craigslist rant...

Every time I deal with craigslist I'm reminded of why I hate it so much. Its full of three types, scum bags, bums, and scammers.

I have my truck listed and its painful, I have a local guy I know coming to look at it this weekend, I'm going to sell it to him for whatever he offers me.
2005 Chevy Silverado 1500
Here is the old truck in a shameless plug!:D

Within an hour of putting the ad up yesterday:
1. First text, guy sounded kind of legit, than mentioned he wanted to buy it threw paypal and his agent would pick it up. $%^&* scam.
2. Next call, guy sounded normal but it was some sales agency trolling for cheap vehicles.
3. Next call, sounded dumb and had no money. Wondered if I would take like $500 now, and $1k next week. Yeah no my name is not Bank of America.

Accept the crap that comes with CL. I'm selling my mom's LS400 on CL and this time the experience has been good, but I expect the worst. It's a lot like ebay - I get a bunch of stupid questions each time I list something, but I still have to answer all of them. Who cares what a 1985 500SL AMG gets for mpg???

"Hi, I'm interested in your _______ in Craigslist. Is it still for sale?" :D

Nah, you can ignore dumb questions on EBay. Worst comes to worse, people won't bid on a given item. If they're asking stupid questions before sale, this might be a good thing.

When it comes to selling anything, the scammers & spammers are annoying as all get out and there are a lot of flaky people with nothing better to do and no money hassling sellers. On the other hand, I have gotten some really great buys off that site. Its a love/hate thing! We have a 1937 Nash Lafayette Business Coupe for sale on CL right now and I've been dealing with the same crap.

Listing real estate on craigs is the best :D

Selling my motorcycle was an absolute headache. 3-5 scam texts a day. Had one guy say he was interested until there was hours left of meeting. I try calling him to confirm and he blocked my number. Called him from my work phone and he says let me call you right back. Blocked that one too.

I posted my dads dead focus on there a few weeks back. In the ad , I explained it has thrown a rod and needed a motor. Head is currently off. One guy called and had it in his mind all it needed was a head.

Then there are the people who sell an item and never bother to take the add down.

I have an ex gf that made a living off craigslist. She would buy individual items and sell bundles. It was hilarious. She knew that this purse with this shirt and shoes was desirable. etc.

She could read the sheeple well enough to pick buyers. Meet them at a gas station.

She should have used her skills for something far greater. Hence the ex part.

My CL rule, no texts. If you don't have the courage to talk to me, I don't want to sell you anything.

Google voice is the best suggestion here so far.

I have found some good cars through craigslist, one was a dead camry V6 1997 for 400 dollars - timing belt broke - mechanic told the young blond girl it needed a new motor.

she actually asked 400 dollars and I said - here you go, called my tow and had it towed back - the guys wrecker broke so I got half price on tow too.

new belt kit and some sweat equity later - I drove it for 12,000 miles and sold it for 3200.

I see another car - camry 2005 - car has steelies n caps - guy writes its a V6 in the field columns, ad says motor is bad, asking 1000/- unit has 140 K miles. - three pictures in total, all potato quality - no picture of engine. - car was 85 miles away from me.

I call to ask if its a 4 or 6 cyl - "Its a 4 cyl V6" man.. ... Didnt have any more questions for him.

For real fun times - put up an ad near payday for a Buick Park Avenue Ultra 3800 supercharged. and just enjoy the massive comical stuff you get in.

I have met both ends of the spectrum in this case. One was actually a guy who had a huge stuttering problem, Another one had something done to his voicebox so he would talk out of a mic that he put on his neck.

Both users were texting only. Came to know of their issue when they showed up.

OTOH - I have met one of the "new fashioned self centered mutes" - these guys are special, they fail to make eye contact of any kind and are constantly giggling and thumbing their phones, Even right infront of you when you are trying to negotiate.

I told him to "jee tee eff o" . just as the way it is written when he was standing one 2 feet away from me and he had seen the vehicle and being old fashioned I waited for "yep" or "ill pass"

this idiot is looking at his phone, giggling and thumbing for 1 minute straight. - Then has the nerve to tell me that Im rude.
