Bio-Concrete
The 'living concrete' that can heal itself - CNN.com
The bioconcrete is mixed just like regular concrete, but with an extra ingredient -- the "healing agent." It remains intact during mixing, only dissolving and becoming active if the concrete cracks and water gets in. |

Back in the Day
Crushed live coral was used for road surfacing in some of the Caribbean and Lesser Antilles islands. They kept it wet with sea water for a few days and it grew together as smooth and hard as concrete.
Good luck with getting away with that today. |

Given the rate of natural coral growth . . . it may as well have been crushed giant sequoia trees.

That is cool and creative. I wonder how they keep the capsules from dissolving when they are mixing the concrete, since they are released by water.
