Seems like the Mississippi river valley is where the trend is towards higher levels of obesity. Perhaps a food culture?

The map doesn't tell the whole story. I moved from Georgia to Nevada about ten years ago and while the map shows similar obesity rates, it was pretty common to see someone really obese in Georgia, while it's a pretty rare sight here. Not sure why.

You also don't have to look far in Hawaii to find some huge folks.
