I imagine there is nothing like pulling a wheelie running 100 mph splitting lanes in 70 mph traffic to get the adrenaline going.
Personally I've never done it and nowadays I just cruse around between 55 and 65 on the Road King.

I have not although I did get my kicks on motocross bikes back in the early 70s. I've owned all Harleys except for that one BMW R100RT back in the 80s.

BTW, there's this thing that some of us do. We quote a post and type our remarks below it.

Filtering (aka splitting) is legal in most of the world. Why it's not legal in most of the U.S. is something of a mystery to me.

Bikers are risking mostly their own safety. It's their problem, not the state's.

A guy I know splits lanes in all states, it keeps him from getting rear-ended and overheating.

Really depends on local customs whether a cop will have a problem with it. It seems to be done in parts of NY a lot, whereas in NJ, you'll get an "unsafe driving" ticket for $400.

Its in the california dmv code previously. About those same limits. And even some water cooled bikes will overheat.
The cops do it too. |

I bow to your superior hyperbole, in any color.
Let me rephrase if that will help you. In MODERN times, if while on a motorcycle you split a lane at 70 or better and a highway patrolman sees you, you will be cited -- at his or her discretion, of course. That you may get away with it does not make it legal. The only "factual" discrepancy is the result, based upon officer discretion. Capice? |

Legal or not, not me.
The driving by others has continuously gotten worse over time that I have seen during decades of driving with people having longer commute times, whether it be due to more traffic, a longer distance, or both.
Add to that cell phone use (hand held or otherwise, still a cognitive distraction) and people starting to unfortunately rely on blind spot indicators in newer cars. Nope. Visible is the way to go. People don't signal when they change lanes as it is. They just see an opening, or they don't, and force their way in. I even weave across my lane from time to time on a motorcycle to help make sure people see me. Here in NJ, if you are in the middle lane, and you want the person just back and to your left to accelerate and make an opening for you to get in, just signal left. They will accelerate and pass as to not let you in.
