I don't follow. Why would the exit number have to change? We have some exits that are numerically 1 ahead whereas actual distance can be 2 or 3 miles ahead. Besides, in this day and age of GPS, I think it won't matter as much. I haven't had to own an atlas or map of any sort for a very long time.

Not sure I really understand the big brouhaha over this. I was brought up using the metric system but didn't have any issues adapting to the US system and can use either. Look at guns, for instance. We have metric (9mm, 10mm, etc) and imperial (.357, .41 .44 etc) for bullet size and cartridges like the 30-06 and 7.62X39. Only real advantage I see is for a guy to tell a girl he has a 100mm penis as opposed to a 4 inch penis since 100 seems a lot larger than 4.

On a serious note, our failure to convert to metric can be seen 2 ways. We have a weak government (relatively), so it is good or bad. A stronger government can force the changes by saying "By the year 2020, you will be 100% metric". OTOH, a strong government can also ram thru things you might not like. A weaker government cannot do something that might be good, in this case converting to the metric system and has to get public consent. OTOH, a weaker government cannot push something undesirable across as easily. Pick your poison. I have had both forms and prefer a weaker government but realize I have to live without some of the "good" a strong government provides but also without some of the "ills" a strong government provides.

One odd thing for me about metric is the meter. I'm accustomed to inches, feet, and yards, of course but my take is that the focus while flying metric is on meters and centimeters. I had to do search to make sure I had the right word for the unit that falls between those two, 1/10th of a meter, that is, the decimeter.

My brain has it that a meter is a tad longer than a yard and a centimeter is about 4/10s of an inch. The decimeter doesn't register as a unit for me. 4 inches? No, thanks anyway, I don't use that as a unit.

We will continue to do so with our next inevitable President coming in at seventy years of age, and leaving knocking on octogenarians door. So no need to worry. Plus according to A. Gore those coastal countries will be under water by 2015.

When I first heard those statements I thought, how about that a politician that is suggesting something positive that will effect everyone equally. That also comes with not having to hurt or attack a small segment to attract votes.

I use the metric measurement for my job and so does my wife. It took all of a few minutes to figure out. The whole system is based on 10. how hard is it to figure out that 10mm is 1 cm, 10cm is 1 m,

10m is 1 decameter..... A temp of 0 is freezing and 100 is boiling. with speed, 1 kph is 1,000 m per hour. Anyone know how many ft per sec 60 mph is without looking it up? I'm guessing very few.

I think the biggest concern in the article is the issue with drugs. Hospitals all use the metric system when dispensing drugs. How many people have been injured or killed because of our stubbornness in not adopting the world wide standard of measurements?

I'm a little rusty living in the USA for so long so mistakes could be made on my part:

10mm is 1 centimeter or cm.

I thought centi is the prefix for 1/100? If so, 100cm is 1 meter

On the same note of a 100mm phallus, the ladies wont like it when they are presented with sizes of

92-60-92 as cm

instead of the 36-24-36 (inches) of their body.. Pretty sure nothing will calm that storm down. Expect tsunami level if done in mm.

Yes you are right. I missed a 0. Still easier than trying to remember how many feet are in a mile.

Think about it another way, everyone will be so large that if they are 36 inches or 60, it will be confusing and the too can get away with it if they are "plus size".

Lose a "0" in what I owe someone, I'm good. Add a "0" in what I owe someone else, not so good. As they say, "How long a minute seems depends on which side of the bathroom door you are on.

No doubt about it for me and you. Unfortunately our government is weak by design so making authoritarian change is going to be hard without massive support.
