Darwinian MLB Pitcher?
Misspelled headline aside, MLB had to create a special rule for Venditte. He has to declare which arm he is going to throw from before the at bat, however the hitter and the pitcher can change position only one time during an at bat. He's also got a special glove with two thumbs. Last edited by MTI; 06-09-2015 at 04:03 PM. |

He's not a spectacular pitcher, but he's able to pitch consistently from both sides, which is amazing. One would imagine that he'd be able to throw more pitches since fatigue isn't as big a factor.

Makes you wonder about his pitch count limit. Can he throw 80-90 pitches, then switch his throwing arm and throw 80 more?

Makes me think of Charles Shackleford... "Coach says I'm amphibious. I can shoot with either hand.."

I would think that general fatigue would limit him more than a tired arm. I expect that he does it depending on which side that hitter is hitting from. The fastball coming in on a hitter is diferent than when going away. From the pictures he might be a side arm or 3/4 arm pitcher. If so the difference from side to side would be even more drastic .

I imagine he has to keep his hair fairly long to hide his gills.

Another advantage is that his body wouldn't be built up on just one side. According to egoscu (sp), this is a problem for a lot of pro athletes. I am ambidextrous. I do cast fly fishing either right or left. Can't say I am great at it. I did hear of a CA boy years ago who could pitch either hand. I wonder if this is him. The other teams complained, thinking they had an extra player.
