It all started going downhill when they added the starters to the engine.

I even saw an old video of a chrysler minivan which could be removed from park without pressing the brake and children could do that easily. there were some people in it trying to act very smart and say this van is very dangerous. Apparently these people never heard of the parking brake or getting their children to behave.
Yup, never had my 300D jump into gear it definitely didn't have an interlock.

Back in the bad old days, when cars had gauge clusters which contained real gauge needles and painted gauge faces, one tipoff that you needed to turn your headlights on was your inability to see the speedometer. Today, electronic instrument clusters which require lighting at all times, eliminate that little clue.

What about the badder ild days when they had a horse? Bet they said the same thing when the new fangled car things came out?

Sorry if you are too stupid to check what is going on. Maybe you should save money and take the bus.

Speaking of all the changes in technology dumbing down the consumer, what's the challenge with posting a link to an article? The extra three seconds to cut and paste instead of typing "sorry for not posting a link" can't be all that draconian...

Took the 300CE thru a car wash a couple of weeks ago. The setup has a turntable to pivot the cars 90 deg. into the wash aisle. Driver gets out of car, they pivot the platform, turn off the engine and pull it thru the wash. Guy at the other end gets in car & looks lost. Can't figure our how to start the car. (ignition in dash must have confused him) I yelled over to him: Turn the ignition key. .

Just imagine placing a rotary dial telephone on a table in front of a teenager and telling them to make a call...

the clue is still there, there is a small green icon with two lamps opposing each other. That is the clue for headlamps ON.

The first car I saw with such gauges was a toyota crown in the late 90s, its user manual explicitly told that the gauges are always lit up, please use the headlamp switch to switch on the driving lamps.

maybe due to the christmas tree of lights in the gauge face zone out the people, just like 90% of drivers are driving around with the warning triangle and TPMS lamp (aka stick in jar lamp) and wonder why their tires are shot.
