Oops I did it again

Since everyone else is buying cars I hopped on the bandwagon.

I've wanted a beetle since I was a kid and ever since then I've looked at ads and been to vw shows, read magazines, everything. And now I'm finally able to get one.

I found it through a friend on Facebook and it met most of my criteria. Mainly not being a rusted out pile of crap...which is hard to find and it had to be pre '67. I didn't want to get a '67 due to the one year only specialness of the car and anything after a '67 just didn't interest me.

So this time next week when it arrives I'll be the proud new owner of a '64 Beetle.

It has a roof rack, black powder coated wheels, new tires all around, new pans, new heater channels, uncut dash, 1600 engine, lowered and narrowed beam, and patina'd.

like the idea of them but drove them enough back in the day to know I don't want to own one now.

My dad bought a 66 new and I drove it plenty until I got hit broadside in it with my future first wife on the way to the Simon and Garfunkle concert at Clowes hall at Butler. (totaled).

I also bought a 59 beetle in Amsterdam in 1970 and drove it all over for a couple of months including over the Pyrenees and the Alps. Great old car but a real pos in terms of handling etc.

I keep thinking about one, but I don't want to ditch the 300D and I think one old car is enough for me these days.

I am quite fond of the improved version designed by Butzi Porsche in the 60's, but they are a bit $$$ for me.

Very Nice. I have always wanted one as well but I would need to thin the herd and I'm too invested in my W124's right now to get rid of either of them.

Looking forward to The Don's usual gripes about previous owner's poor repairs and non-disclosures.

Owls Head museum had a VW van with a relabeled speedometer. It was labeled "Crash-O-Meter" and the scale was labeled "Probability of Crash".

I enjoy my '59 ragtop sunroof. Fun to putz around in, easy to work on, and it seems that life slows down when I am out in it.
The '79 bus is faster, and being bright green and white hard to miss although some try not to.
