I reckon engine parts would probably be OK - but chassis parts even in France are probably not too easy to get these days. Renault used to have a different attitude to cars in the old days though. They used to have mega long production runs and much better spares support than they do these days. I've heard that spares for any new French car are apparently difficult to find past about ten years old these days

Back in 1980, I was given a grey-market 1973 Renault R6-TL - a tiny, tinny FWD 4-door hatchback. But very comfortable seats and ride. I found many parts were shared with the R5, which at the time was being sold here as the 'Le Car'. So I was able to fix it up and drive it. The weird four-speed dashboard gear-shift actually worked very well and was much better than the atrocious, rubbery floor-shift Renault used on the 'Le Car'!

No French cars sold here at all now. Not since the early '90s when Peugeot suddenly abandoned the US-market - leaving their dealers & customers out in the cold!

Happy Motoring, Mark

Amazing thread! Big fan of cars with personality, as unloved as they may be.

Next time I'm car hunting I'll add to it

(But in the mean time if others find some weird and wonderful offerings - post 'em up)

I bought a brand new Le Car about then, maybe 81 or 82. Wasn't AMC marketing them through their dealerships? I seem to recall some sort of Renault-AMC hookup..Drove the crap out of it for a year and a half and then fell on temporary cash flow difficulties. I couldn't give the damned thing away. It never gave me any problems and was kind of a hoot to drive.

Yeah, AMC was bought or partly bought by Renault. I always liked the looks of them but was leery of anything french after my marginal experience with my first car a 1960 Simca Aronde four door. Lovely to drive....fragile transmission and engine.
