p.s. I'm thinking about adding this article to a course I'm teaching this coming year. I'm opening with Room 237 to talk about the nature of interpretation of literature and historical documents.

Well, I read the whole thing and it made sense to me.

I do find it strange that women do not find me the most attractive man that ever lived because all I have to do is look in the mirror to know this is true. But you would be amazed to learn how many women tell me that is just my opinion when it is so clearly a fact.

Why can't they just take my word for it? After all, I hear a lot of crazy stuff spouted on the radio and there are a lot of people who take that as a fact without ever checking it out.

Could it be that in person they can actually see me? That they are forming opinions of their own?

I guess we will never know.

I would argue that when one says mint tastes awful that it is a fact. Since taste is personal, and only you know what you taste, then it has to be true. However the subject is taste, not mint.
