Excellent advice about poison ivy, poison sumac and poison oak

Luckily I've never needed this advice, but I'm still glad I know this now.

Thanks for this! Mr. Benzasaurus also gets terrible allergic reactions to it so I'll be sure to share this with him.

Thanks for the link. I've been to the ER before because of an extremely bad reaction to poison ivy. I'm incredibly paranoid about the stuff so hopefully I can do stuff like this to be at less risk.

Another tip is that rubbing Jewelweed (also called touch-me-not) all over the area that contacted the poison ivy will help neutralize the reaction if you realize that you have contacted it. You'll have to crack open the stem and rub the inside on yourself for maximum effect (there is a lot more juice there).

Jewelweed is the plant with the seed pods that explode when you touch them. Here are some pictures:

It spreads really easily, but also pulls up really easily, so it's not hard to keep under control.

Forget leaves of three. You can get a reaction from a three or five leafed plant. My horticulturist friend says stay away from anything with a red stem.

I say just stay away from plants. Half of them will kill you and the other half just dream of it.
