An buddy of mine, who used to work at Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills as a mechanic had a similar story about a CL55 AMG that came back for the first time after 45K miles...Older lady owned it.

Wonder if that's one of those new high-tech German cars with no dipsticks?
She must've been relying on the oil maintenance computer. I had an old Audi where I had to add a quart every 250 miles. I guess you could say that one was self-changing! Happy Motoring, Mark

Those of us in the repair biz, see stuff like this all the time.
around here, we call 'em "sludgebuckets". Funny, these same owners are usually the ones complaining that no one will make them a decent offer on their "trade in". These same cars also usually have corded tires, brake rotors thinner than razor blades, and petrified cheet-os scattered throughout the interior. |

So, did they ever "add" any oil. It does not specify. I'm sure they must have... If not, I'd say it looks pretty good! Keep on truckin.... It's just an Audi, who cares!

Had an OM642 CDI in the shop last month that did the same thing after 35K. The owner drove it til it locked up.

Here's my Avalon at 200,000 miles.
5K intervals using Valvoline. It's really not that hard, folks!

I'd change the oil, toss in a quart of Rislone, and call it good.
Or perhaps I would take it to the car wash, remove the valve cover, hose it down and drain the oil right into the wash bay. Replace the cover, fill with oil (and Rislone) and you would be good to go! |

I figure the oil and filter service every 5,000 miles would run about $1260. I bet you could get a good used engine for that.
So it's a break even deal! |

Last time I checked, I'd much rather change oil than swap an engine. Besides, that engine used almost no oil between changes. Ever. I've sold it, but it has every reason to go another 100K.

This sort of customer usually have a strange meek teehee type chuckle when they say they didnt have the oil changed, usually they forgot - and because the car didnt make any noise, smell or death warning flash on the gauges - they thought it was good to go. Well -- the teehee chuckle is not comprehensible by a mechanical machine which is your engine.
not to be stereotype, but you can see a lot of used mini owners are young women in the 20s - got a starting job and bought a mini because it completes their "magazine snapshot" look with coach handbag, MK shoes etc. then they go to the mini dealer and are shocked at the prices, claiming that jiffy lube advertises it for 20, JL even turn them down because they would like to sell the euro oil for it. So then she either never has the oil changed and just limps it in for a trade in lot or finds a shady type 15 dollar oil change special, who put in some unknown 5w30 and let the car roll.
