What possible reason could they have for doing that. There was tons of money in salvage parts available on that car. Doors, lights, wheels, suspension, engine, glass.... to mention just a few. That does not make sense.

There was a question about it being a test mule, but the SLS has been out for years and those initial cars would have met their fate long ago.

Pea brains. Pick n Pull is wholly owned by Schnitzer Steel. They're more than happy to crush and recycle worn out Benzes but they're smart enough to sell the usable parts first, and for a lot more than the price of scrap steel.

I wonder what just the wheels on that car would have brought.

Strange thing is an SLS is mostly carbon fiber. Notice how a lot of the panels just crushed under the claw. From a salvage standpoint it makes no sense. My guess is something like a govt seizure and a point being made.

I worked for them for about a year. About 95% of what came to us was fail wheel drive junk that shouldn't have been built in the first place. Once in a while we had to crush a cool one, and that always bothered me. Still, with one of those we would have at least sold the wheels.

I suspect waste on that level probably involved a government agency.

I, years ago, attended a lot of city auction sales picking up a project now and then. And now and then a car would come up for auction that the auctioneer would make clear was for crushing only.

Sometimes people would object. I guess they missed the part where it said all announcements on auction day blah, blah, blah. But the folks running the auction would always take the time to say they didn't know why but it was a Court order and it was a felony to sell any parts off of it.

Usually they were Euro cars that had been imported with dummy paperwork and were not legal to possess in the US.

If I were a betting man I would think that is the case with this car.

Whenever I see these I always keep hoping somehow, someone, will appear in the video and make it stop. Why can't they just sell the car to Interpol so it can be sold back where it came from and not trashed like this? Something, anything else but this.
