A $61K Ford F-150
REVIEW: 2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch Luxury | Best Ride Blog
Critics point out this also means trucks have gotten expensive. For example, our King Ranch test model in a SuperCrew configuration, 3.5L EcoBoost engine rings up at $61,175. Quite literally, you could buy 3 1990s Ford F-150 trucks for that price. While critics rage against the rising prices, consumers snap these models up. These luxury trucks are becoming top sellers for every automaker. For example, Ford says their luxury trucks – Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and up – account for more than 30 percent of the models they sell. |

I looked inside one of them Platinum models and it was quite nice. I'm sure it rode as good as it looked too.

When will American truck manufacturers stop using those cornball white-lettered tires? Last time I purchased a set of those was for a Mustang back in 1977.

If I had need for a truck and was otherwise looking at a new E class or 5 series I would look at one of these. The market is there for these high end trucks. Personally I couldn't justify the extra cost over a nicely equipped XLT for around 39k

Quote:
Bloomberg did an article back in the winter about the supersizing of "pick-up" trucks. (somewhat of an oxymoron these days?). It's worth reading the reason behind the fervor with which all pickups are getting taller and fatter. Hint: CAFE changes that became effective in 2009(?) |

U.S. CAFE ratings are idiotic. How about we have some base tax rate and multiply by the liters/100 km? Or just raise the tax on fuel?

Adopt European methods for fuel and vehicle taxation? Hah! You would find politicians more eager to cancel the Social Security program than to mess with the God-given right to buy a pickup with a 6 liter V8.

One of my neighbors is a Mopar guy. He's got several Rams, but his pride and joy is an 03 4x4 Hemi Ram full boat with 23K miles on it. He takes it out of his barn and goes for coffee in town in it and that's ALL. I love the sound of that Hemi. He was telling me Dodge has some kind of twin supercharged Hemi pickup coming out that will top 62K$ . He's thinking about it he says.
I know quite a few regular working stiffs who buy these fancy rigs. There is no way they have the cash for a 40K$ vehicle, never mind one of these. Gotta be in hock up to their eyeballs for a LONG time. I'll pass.

A friend with a big Toyota pickup said she was spending $800/mo for gas back when it was higher. She was commuting and playing taxi for her kids.
Her truck has to be far more efficient than the lifted f350s with the huge tires. Where was that trend popularized? It is sucking the bottom out of a lot of young men's pockets. $60k for a car so you can buy gas and insurance so you can drive to work and earn money and drive to the store to spend money. My new definition of dumbass. |
