Hey please let me know if they would have time to checkout one in Grand Rapids MI, not to far from Holland Michigan. A little to far from South Holland Illinois though.

I am in Northeastern MA and could check out cars within about two hours of me... the one issue is that I'm going to be in school with a very heavy workload between now and December. Still, if given a few days' advance notice, I could do it on Sunday. I have a decent camera, the Corolla averages 38 MPG, and I can upload/send stuff pics/pdfs all day (well, figuratively speaking). I dress decently and have a polite manner, so dealing with potential sellers shouldn't be a problem. I can swallow my pride when need be .

I have decent mechanical knowledge and am the detail-oriented engineering student-child of detail-oriented engineers.

I don't have a smartphone, although we do have an old iPod Touch that I could dig out and try to install WhatsApp on. Would Facebook chat work as an alternative? I assume that you're trying to avoid international phone bills.

Skid Row Joe, I got your message but I still can't send you anything because of your settings! Just send me an email. Compensation is negotiated on a one-to-one basis, not on a standard rate.

I was considering participating, although my knowledge of these cars certainly lags behind Stretch and the Joose. But honestly, the comment quoted above convinced me not to bother. Perhaps it is the socialist in me, but two people doing the same job should get the same compensation. An organization which gives special deals to the greediest members is an organization which I don't need (and probably doesn't need me either, to be fair).

As an aside, if an individual cannot figure out how to change their PP profile settings, what are the chances they can successfully install and operate WhatsApp on his smart phone?

I was thinking more about gas prices, distance from home, degree of knowledge and fixed costs of performing the inspection. Those change from individual to individual, so it is a reasonable assumption that rates would be different.

I think we are all a distant blip in the horizon both in knowledge and detail-attentiveness compared to Stretch .

I don't see the differing pay being wrong. You're asking two people to do the same job, but under different circumstances. For example, a friend of ours has a daughter who went to a remote area in Alaska to work as a waitress for (IIRC) oil drill workers. She took the job because the pay was very lucrative, much better than what your average waitress would make. Why was the pay better? Because, although she is doing the same job as a waitress in Boston, she is having to suffer having to literally live in the middle of nowhere as opposed to in the comforts of the city.

Also, there is the experience factor. Let's say that you are looking to hire a civil engineer to lead the design on a new home, and there are two architects who you can choose from. One of them has been out of school for two years and has no reputation, the other has been practicing for 15 years and is considered one the best architects in the area. Would you pay the experienced one more than you would the freshie? I sure would.

That sounds disgusting and at the same time rather amusing!

(I don't know why)

Thanks for the vote of confidence - but I don't think I've necessarily bought wisely in the past. I've made my vision of my personal liability clear to Delibes - I'll do my best but at the end of the day buying remotely with the advice of others is a bit of a gamble (in my opinion). Though I must say it is probably less of a gamble than just believing what's written in some adverts!
