Joe, if you kept up on the events instead of just harassing random members, you would have seen earlier in one of these threads -- as well as in the news -- that VW chose to run the cheat to save $335.

I would not be surprised if there are no cars that are able meet current standards without their computers gaming the test.

I'm willing to believe it. VW theoretically should have been able to do it with $335 more spent per car. Plus, the Passat and BMW tested by WVU performed just fine, it's just the Sportwagen that was messed up.

It definitely explains how they were the only modern diesel without an exhaust aftertreatment system.

Why isn't it applicable here? You don't think a car that runs forever, gets ~60mpg, & costs $10K would sell as fast as they could be imported?

This is a big deal. The VW company cannot be punished enough for what they did. No telling how many laws were broken because of their actions and behaviors.
They aren't separate topics, ultimately it's shady activity by a car company. One companies lies led to a failed emissions test. Others lies have led to serious injury/death of its customers

In a country where the crossover is the fastest-growing market segment and the average price of a new car is >$30,000? No. I don't think they would sell well. We are wealthy enough, and our gas is cheap enough, that econoboxes don't sell well here.

Nope. Apples and orangutans. LOL!

Uh....."60 mpg??" you might be talkin' about a motor scooter there.....

With any luck, VW will have it's financial back broken to the extent that the Chinese buy it's remnants. We'd have a much better world if the Asians would buy VW, IMHO.

I'd seriously consider buying one - if Chinese-owned, but not with VeeDub's present underhanded, pervasive, felonious behavior as their way of life. nfw.......

No one's "gaming their computers," but VW.

Polo bluemotion TDI does upwards of 70mpg US.

Are you planning to post on this thread at some point from a position of intelligent contribution? Or is it the usual no facts, no data, no clue?

Is it a three strikes you're out policy? Because that makes three if I'm not mistaken.

There are a lot of small passenger cars in the UK that get 60 mpg or more: Most economical car 2015: best mpg cars on sale now | Auto Express ... those are imperial figures but even if you convert them, they're way over 60mpg. Pretty sure there are even petrol cars that get that or close. Fuel is $8 a gallon there.

Ford, GM, Honda, ect have all been caught with emissions cheat devices, not to mention truck manufacturers. For that matter this isnt even VWs first emissions cheat scandal, they got slapped over the hand in the 70s as well.

Its no ones first rodeo. Isnt you motorcoach (camper) a ford econoline based diesel van? Well ford cheated in the late 90s on their gas econolines. This is all public data for anyone interested in actually looking stuff up.

I think its not only possible, but probable there is other cheating taking place. Certainly more likely than rabid racist real estate agents.
