This is a minor miracle
I must of fired at least a hundred thousand rounds out of AK47s and variants and I've NEVER had one jam. They have such a reputation of jam proof and reliability that the envy of any gun maker. To have one jam in a mild climate is almost unheard of.

The AK platform is very reliable. To have one jam is rare...so long as the weapon is well maintained. Who am I kidding? It's Soviet technology. Maintaining it is optional...
The fact that this one jammed has to be a miracle.

That explains some of the waste in the MIC.

Well the previous 7.62 by 39 owners left it laying around when they departed this earth so I doubt your taxes took a hit

So he does and a lot of it gets passed on to Police departments for training or disposal. He has never received anything rare but he did get a Mauser rifle that was used in some South American country that was chambered in some weird round that only they used. So he can look at it but never fire it since ammo for it no longer exists. Sometimes the difference between a rare collectors item and garbage is in the eyes of the beholder. |

I'm not seeing how it can be said the gun jammed. Looked more like he was out of rounds. The AK does not lock open when you run out of rounds like the AR/M16. You get to the point it just clicks and you know you are empty. I've never had an AK jam on me and I have run them until the barrel starts to change color. The AR, well, that's a whole other issue all together. When a direct impingement AR gets really hot, I've had shells stick in the chamber to the point the gun needs to cool down for an hour before it can be used again. Of course, that's when doing lots of mag dumps.

You'd think they'd design it with an open bolt when on auto. For the life of me I don't understand why they stay with the AR. HK's are reliable AND accurate if your battle buddy on your right doesn't mind getting pelted with hot brass. The AK design if made with accuracy in mind is good such as IMI's Galil. Can't speak to Styers or others. Of course the M14 and Garand are God's gift to war.

The AR is reliable when you use a piston design. Keeps all the heat and spent gun powder out of the bolt carrier group. I've never had my piston AR's jam. The AK is still a better design though. It's just so simple and easy to clean. Not to mention, the bolt return spring is inside of the receiver instead of in back. You can make a shorter and easier to maneuver weapon.

Right now I don't have a single auto loader in the house, too expensive to feed. I'm down to Smoke Poles, bolt actions, one .38S&W and a Stevens riot shotgun

Surplus 7.62 is everywhere at less that a quarter a round. Not dirt cheap, but the morons were paying 15 cents a round for .22LR not long ago.
