You can buy 2-3 year old E classes for the price of a Honda Accord, with a CPO warranty they make a good case for themselves.

Since your not going to get any tax advantages with a lease a few year old one might make a lot more sense.

Well, we drove a 2016 Genesis, looked for used Mercedes in the area, and other brands. Read all the reviews we could find. Ran the numbers over and over and.....leased the Genesis. Total out of pocket cost of the car with the lease was 2K less than the discounted cash price. That doesn't make sense to me, but that is the way it is. I think it has something to do with Hyundai being the leasing company instead of an outside leasing company.
10/100K Power train warranty.
5/60K bumper to bumper warranty.
7/Unlimited Anti-perforation warranty (what ever that is)
5/unlimited roadside assistance.

Trivia, the car is a Genesis, not a Hyundai. It is kind of like a Lexus is not a Toyota but it really is. Nowhere on the car does it say Hyundai.

Thanks for all the replies, and wish me luck.

Leasing every 3 years and we would always have a 'new' car. Buy a 3 year old car and we would never have a new car but would possibly have someone elses problems. Buy a new one and have a 'new' car for a few years and then have an old car.
Lease a car and at the end of the lease I have nothing. Buy new and in 3 years I own a 3 year old car. Buy a 3 year old car and in 3 years I have a 6 year old car.
This could go on for ever. Soooo, what do I do.
Keep in mind, we may only have another 10 years to drive on any kind of long trip.

Thanks

There are people at my office who got in a lease then had to do ridiculous things to avoid extra charges. Apparently the Dodge truck lease has such limited mileage before you pay a penalty that the guy bought a beater to use back and forth in the summer-- NO AIR!

This kind of defeats the purpose of leasing a nice car with good A/C, doesn't it?

Check mileage limitations if you plan on driving a lot. Just a suggestion.

This is why it pays to understand the implications of a contract before you sign it. I don't know how many miles a year that guy in your office was driving, but the cost of depreciation and insurance on even a beater probably exceeded the overmileage charges.

Ram like most other manufactures offers 10k, 12.5k, and 15k miles per year for their leases. Not sure if they go over or under that.

Read the contract.

If you drive 30k a year leasing a vehicle with a 15k limit is pretty stupid, yet people still do it.

Leases always seem to end up like annuities......there's surprises you learn after signing the agreement that become huge negatives as you go along.

Good luck. Hope it works out for your intended usage/convenience/reliability, and, most importantly, that you like the car!

If that is the case, then the Lessee didn't do their homework. They either didn't read the agreement carefully, or did not correctly project their ability to comply with the terms of the lease.

A fool and his money quickly part ways.

Also, x2 to both the above posts. You can make out ahead on a lease (and buyout) if you negotiate and predict markets correctly.

I was just online last night, its cheaper to lease than buy a 2016 E350 4Matic than to simply buy it.

If you add up the lease payments and the buyout at the end its about a grand less than simply buying the car.

Well, we decided we wanted to get a new car. We drove the Genesis, E350 Mercedes, ES350 Lexus and a few others that were not even considered. Of the 3 finalist, all had their shortcomings. Some had their pluses that the others didn't have. The E350 was nicer than the others but not by much. So it came down to price. The Genesis was 20K less than the E350 and 10K less than the ES350. That alone was not the deciding factor. I liked the way the genesis drove. It was tighter, more responsive, had more power then the others, and higher epa ratings. In the NHTSA crash test the Genesis beat both the others. On a scale of 1 to 5 the Genesis was a 5 in all the test. We got standard equipment, no options, with 3.8L V6 with 311 HP. 8 speed transmission. All three cars were specked with standard equipment only. It is a little over 4,000 lbs and rides very good but still has good road feel.
Last week we drove to the NC mountains and I can say this thing handles better than car I have ever owned. This includes an early 80's corvette, my 500SEL and many others. We both love it and can't wait to take a long trip in it.
I may have made a mistake and if so, it is not the first nor will it be my last. We did our home work and have no regrets so far.

Thanks for all the inputs. They gave us a better handle on what to look out for.

PaulM

Who makes the transmission? Is it the Zf 8 speed?
