If the owners don't come forward after this pubic notice perhaps the airport can seize them, like an abandoned car, and auction them off?

Perhaps the owners have better things to do than to keep up with them. And I know how they feel.

I knew a guy whose Pinto broke down and he pushed it into the parking lot of a 7-11. When he came back a few months later it was gone!

He seemed baffled by this.

Hey, easy come, easy go!

Seems odd. They must have a real scrap value if nothing else. Who just tosses that kind of $ out the door?

Not to mention they flew there. And since when can't we figure out the ownership history on a pig like that?

A 747 is a bit big to be abandoned, but there are a number of virtually abandoned planes at General Aviation airports in various places.

In Greenville, Texas there are a few good sized planes easily seen when entering the pattern. When you ask if they are on static display, they just laugh and say, "yeah, for the last twenty years" No one seems to know the real story.

I flew into Tulahoma, Tennessee in September and there is a DC3 tied down on the tarmac. When I asked about it they said it was welded to the ground because it hadn't moved in thirty years or something.

These examples made, its hard to imagine how you would get by with this scheme for a 747.

Probably one of those deals where if the owner claims the planes he gets put in jail for the duration. Gov settles for the proceeds of the sale.

New owner probably has to refurb on site or risk being lost at sea. Recent Maylay airliner losses would discourage the risk of ferry.

Turns out the actual owner has been fighting with these guys all along, and is in a catch 22. They require registration which first requires inspection which is not allowed without registration or some such ...
