It's not a "try", it's true. It's a semi-synthetic oil, the car has a pretty precise direct-injection fuel injection system, and I've broken myself of the habit of pouring fistfuls of grit into the oil fill tube. Why would I want to change it excessively? Has the oil lost it's ability to lubricate?

Wife car has a "Change Oil" light. that full syn 0-20 ain't cheap. I recorded the miles and the light comes on at approx 4000 to 6000 miles.

Does your owners manual give milage intervals at which you should change the oil or state wait until the light comes on, or when it shows less than what percentage of oil life is left? If it states wait for the indicator, please let us know what make and model it is so we can avoid buying a used one, especially a lease return.

What you need to know is that the oil change intervals are set as long out as they can be and still get it out of warranty. This is keep the cost of ownership low in the consumer reports. Don't expect it to go a million miles.

The car runs just fine - both turbos aren't complaining - it still starts right up in the morning - and the cash that I would waste on unnecessary oil changes is resting comfortably in my pocket. Life is good.

I hardly keep a car long enough to need to change the oil.

The bikes are a different story. I farm that out - on my Ducati, it's $70 for Motul, filter, and labor (involves pulling the oil pump screen/cleaning, chain adjustment, and checking the belts). Get's done once a year at the beginning of riding season or 5k miles, which isn't terrible either way. The Ninja is a cheaper ($40) because it doesn't use fancy oil.

I do 10k on most of my vehicles 0w40 syn. Oil sample analysis shows that can at least be pushed another 5 to 10k on my 250k vw.

Oil is a hell of a lot better than when the 3k interval was gospel. My work van i do 5k with cheap oil as it leaks

Quicky oil change tales

On the wankel I'd burn through half the capacity if I were to stretch it to 10k or above. Burns a little less than 1/4 quart every thousand miles (by design). Cheapo Dino oil seems to be the best for it.

I wait until the OLM is down to zero which is around 8k miles, than the dealer changes it.

These days dealers are cheap no need to go to a quick change place. Its actually about the same price to have the dealer do it vs doing it myself.

Every other month except for Novembeard, Decembeard, and Janubeard.

I've become a fair weather rider, and in those 3 months, it's too cold for me to attempt riding.

Yeah, absolutely terrible! I had to put on a sweatshirt!

On a more serious note, I'm flying to Denver this afternoon, and don't plan on changing out of my shorts and flip flops for the flight/arrival in Denver. My phone says it's going to be ~10*F when I land, so it should be interesting, right?
