I would probably purchase one of these - Ford F150 diesel

Ford F150 diesel

Sitting here reading about it and said to wife I'd probably be interested in purchasing one of these. She said in what, 10 years with 200k miles. She reminded me how young we would be by then.

Dodge's Ecodiesel is selling well. Not surprised others would want a piece of that market.

I wish a small diesel truck was available new here. If I could have bought one brand new I'd have happily done so.

It is not a rumor. I was working on part of the cooling system.

Pass get the Ecoboost.

The problem with the diesel is oil changes are going to be like $80-$100, plus fuel filters, plus exhaust treatment, plus diesel is $1 more than RUG at the moment.

Not to mention the up charge at the dealer, $4k on the Ram right now.

The 3.5 Ecoboost screams, requires almost zero maintenance, and delivers OK truck mileage.

My buddy just bought a lightly optioned F150 XLT, sticker was $48k. Most of the ones on the lot with options were $55k+.

Rides nice, the 3.5 screams, IMHO its a bit fugly, but most new trucks are. The biggest disappointment compared to my Ram is the old school 6spd gear box.

I like the GM idea of deactivating a larger engine to save fuel rather than the dual turbo Ford V6. The GM idea is much less sophisticated and you have a heavier engine when you need it. Also the current standard Ford V6 (FWD or RWD 3.3/3.5/3.7) is designed with the water pump in the engine and driven from the timing chain. This means that when the water pump leaks in leaks into the crankcase. Water in oil makes for a short lived engine.

Their is a reason that the vast majority of the trucks on my job sites are GM's...

GM does many things poorly, but they make one heck of a good V8.

I have a 1997 K1500 Silverado with 229,000 miles and the 5.7V8 is still running great. The engine is one thing on the truck that I cannot fault.

I had a 2012 Ecoboost with the max tow package-somewhere around 11 thousand pounds. It was such a nice truck, got 18 mpg and the Ecoboost engine screamed. I paid just under 38 for it, which was too much at the time, in retrospect-but it was a sweet truck.

Prices are crazy. I heard an ad for a Dodge 2500, MSRP $66K.

I have newfound respect for my old 1991 F250. It will pull anything, never leaves the yard without a load. Fuel injected 460, overdrive, 4.10 gears with positraction. I can spend any amount of money to maintain it and still come out golden.
