Visited the Gilmore musem today

I'm in Kalamazoo today visiting my mom.

Yesterday we went out and had a visit at the Gilmore Museum north of town.
The first thing you see upon entry is a replica of Karl Benzes first auto (not labeled as a replica). It is a pretty advanced looking machine considering it is the first car ever built (supposedly). Benz patented it and started manufacturing cars right away.

There was a 37 Studebaker CE there. Lovely medium blue car. Also a 63 avanti which did not have any grill under the front bumper. There was also a Packard Hawk... a really grand Dual cowl Deusenberg, a couple of scrumptious Auburns, a nice Aluminum bodied RR with the top of the body left without paint. Lots of Fords....a nice selection of pedal cars, and a really lovely working Diner from 1941. We had lunch there.

There was also an AJ Foyt Indy car from about 1977, with no guard rails so I could walk right up and peer into the cockpit. It looked about like the cockpit of my 85 Reynard Forumla Ford....but the indy car has Huuuuuggggggeeeee rear tires! Must be nearly 24" wide.

Really a first class museum!

Great to know of!

Thought perhaps you were visiting a "Gary" Gilmore Museum, - if one exists. Glad it wasn't.

She and I discussed it yesterday and decided she is 91.

I had no idea she would want to go to the museum but when i told her I was going she made it clear she was going too. I got a wheel chair from the museum and pushed her along. She had some pretty interesting observations about various cars noting here and there who owned one of these and who owned one of those.

She has some dementia but you'd not notice it if you talked to her. She's a good faker and has a smart mouth. I tell you I get no respect from anybody even my mom!

Today we were watching the Wisconsin returns and she said I should write a book. I said it was a lot of work and besides who would read it. Then I said I guessed I could tell some stories....she said What stories?

Conversations with her are a little wierd sometimes.

My sister who mom lives with now is on vacation this week and we all decided to take turns being with her.

Mercedes-Benz made 175 of those replica models; many of them are in museums, dealerships or private collections. They DO run!

The Gilmore has an awesome collection, and if I remember correctly, they do have one or two 48 Tuckers. I can't wait to visit!

Shot and was shot. Surprised you don't remember his case. They even made a movie about it.
