170S Hotrod
It looks very good! Almost as good as if he'd kept the body stock!;) I like the idea of rodding one of these.
Thank (insert deity of choice) that it doesn't have a small block chevy hacked in. Hard to tell from such a short piece but looks quite artfully done. Kudos to the builder.
I've had a chance to look at a 170 very similar to that one up close and they are quite small....along the lines of a 34 Ford...perhaps smaller. i don't think a mouse would fit. A miata motor would be more appropriate.

I have a '50 170d you could do the same thing with, anybody interested?

Ide probably only do a fenderless pickup rod out of one, cutting the sedan in half and closing the back off would be easy, so only a parts car that everyone turned their back on would be suitable.
and of course a 617 with a stick -or a lighter 602:) 35-47 ford frame, there are about 4 different style hood sides, some have vertical louvers like the 33-4 ford, some are horizontal like the 36 chevy |
Whats it powered buy ,the imagination of an inspired AMG hp gremlin under the hood is coming to mind.
@panzzer Both the 170s and 170v were available as pickups formo the factory. Best place to find them these days is Argentina.

Reminds me of Randy Durrance and his modded 6.3. RIP, Randy.

Interesting that he chose an Alfa Romeo engine over an array of smaller displacement Mercedes engines. I wonder if there was some type of underhood packaging limitation that made the Alfa the best choice, or perhaps he had an old Alfa engine laying around.
I think all the mercedes v6 engines are computer controlled. The alfa motor might even be carburated so much simpler to put to work.
the whole car looks like it was sliced right down thru the top and widened 6" to me
