Enhancing testosterone naturally

As I am not getting any younger and testosterone levels go down with aging, I'm looking to enhance my production of it. I've been thinking about this for some time and recently read about the 'abs after 40' guy, who talks about how important stimulating testosterone is to burning fat and increasing muscle.

Would be nice to buff out at my ripe age, I'm in somewhat good shape but could certainly be better. One of my main interests is enhancing the healing of ailments, which is also aided by better testosterone. My ankles and knees get painful now and then and if I could improve that would be big.

I found this site:

7 Smart Ways To Boost Your Testosterone

They go over some of the stuff the 'abs' guy talks about, that is how the right kind of weight lifting will enhance testosterone production all by itself. Also talk about how eating fat and cholesterol help:

Quote:
1 EAT FAT, BOOST TESTOSTERONE

Often thought as a "physique destroyer", dietary fat is actually one of the most critical players when it comes to optimizing natural testosterone production. Long gone are the days in which we associate fat with heart disease and elevated cholesterol levels; it's now recognized as a sure way to increase testosterone levels. In fact, a study published in the "Journal of Applied Physiology" found that diets with higher amounts of monounsaturated and saturated fats have been shown to increase testosterone levels.

In another study, men who switched from a high-fat diet (13 percent saturated fat) to a low-fat diet (5 percent saturated fat) experienced significantly lower testosterone production rates, and lower circulating androgen levels.
Here are some foods they recommend on that score:

Quote:
EXAMPLES OF QUALITY MONOUNSATURATED FATS:
Olive oil, almonds, avocados, peanut butter

EXAMPLES OF QUALITY SATURATED FATS:
Red meat, coconut oil, egg yolks, dark chocolate, cheese
I eat most of that now, a couple of other things interested me:

Quote:
D-aspartic acid (DAA) is an amino acid present in neuroendocrine tissues and is believed to impact hormone levels by increasing the activity of testosterone production. In one human study, 23 men were given a daily dose of 3,120 mg of DAA for 12 days, whereas another group was given a placebo. After just 12 days, the subjects supplementing with DAA experienced an increase in testosterone by an average of 42 percent and luteinizing hormone (LH) by an average of 33 percent. The results of this study show that DAA may have a key role in the regulation of the release and synthesis of LH and testosterone in humans.
They also mention zinc and vitamin D.

Some Food Additives Mimic Human Hormones - Scientific American

Be sure to get good clean fat. Industrial fat is bad stuff.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_D

A lot of bio chemistry types will tell you that vitamin D is a hormone.

Just go to your friendly local neighborhood health food store. Someone should be able to help you.

I've long avoided hydrogenated fats. Even as a kid I didn't like margarine. Tasted wrong to me. But I've going to have to watch out for that other stuff.

That's a good link. I rarely eat shellfish but that other item - propyl gallate – is something I'll have to watch out for. All the more reason to avoid baked commercial crap.

I need to finally get it together on water bottles. I gather the #1 bottles, the PET plastic is not as bad as the BPA stuff but I keep reading that the PET is far from perfect. I suspect I've been getting endocrine disrupters in my diet for years.

I have three 5 gallon water jugs that I've been refilling at the large commercial water filtration machines for about 10 years (?!). I looked on the bottom tonight, has #7 in the triangle. I'm finding some info that says the #7 rating is inconclusive, a sort of blanket category. Other info that it's bad, it's BPA. I had been under the impression that the 5 gallon jugs would be higher quality. Ass – u – me.

Hard to know which of this stuff is seriously bad and which isn't. One site says the 5 gallon jugs made of #1 are better. But then I also read that you shouldn't refill the #1 water bottles, the 1.5 liter type as they will leech chemicals. What a bleepin mess.

I mean, I'm not growing breasts but I'd like to get my chemistry ship shape.

Hey man, how you doing. Good for you to check in.

Not a bad idea about the health food store. I've resumed my eating of fenugreek sprouts. An extract of fenugreek is thought to be a testo booster. They mention it in the link I posted. It's an ingredient in some spendy testo booster but I just found out you can buy the fenugreek extract by itself pretty reasonably. This stuff here:

Testofen Fenugreek Extract - 300 mg - Low Price - Swanson Health Products

Fenugreek has long been touted as a manhood/libido booster in various cultures. The sprouts will give your armpits a nice maple syrup smell if you eat them regular. Not the greatest tasting item but oh well.

See a doc. They will do tests to get a baseline of your T along with other standard levels to see if something is at issue. After that you’ll get a reasoned basis for treatment.

You may not have a problem with low T and it could be something else. No one should speculate when blood tests will show if anything of note is at issue.

IMO it's best not to try to solve problems until you have a factual basis.......................

That is a good point. Might be no problem at all with the T and moving to get more could be a problem.

Something happened there all right.

My theory is that the guy was a flake from the git-go who happened to be an outstanding athlete. And tried to rest on his laurels from then on.

They may have surgically removed his laurels.

Watch your nipples. Apparently, fenugreek is also used by women to stimulate/increase lactation. But hey, on the bright side, you can have a second career as a wet-nurse

Oddly, the best way to stimulate T is to lose weight. Fat cells destroy T. Also, if you weigh less, the same amount of T will make for a larger concentration per kg of body weight. Get your azz on a bike, pound out 10-20 miles a day. Not that hard, it's an hour to 1.5 hours of riding. Takes less time than doing the gym hamster routine, especially if it can be combined with a daily commute!
