Buy it or it will be CUSHED!!
I have seen this before, but in the last week(s) three sellers ended their "CARS FOR SALE" thread with the threat that if not sold the car would be crushed. WTF??
Is this desperation like the shelter threatening to euphonize the puppies if not adopted? Now I understand its your car, do as you wish, and one of the cars was a whoopee, but to demand the higher end of retail OR I will do this is some strange selling strategy...but funnier that *****

It might be, but I lost a great opportunity to pick up a Euro 240D with the 38pd flywheel for the price of scrap, and there was the caveat either someone buys it by a certain day or it's off to the yard. It ended up at the yard, and I regret not investing a day to get it. If you have a HOA which is riding you like a race horse, then I can see it.

Long, long ago there was a salvage yard dealer in Texas with a bunch of cars from the 30's. He no longer had titles to anything and would do nothing to help you get one. Back then, the late 60's, without the owners help getting a Texas title was impossible.
So he was selling nothing but parts cars. And he was not giving anything away. All of the cars were rustbuckets. They had been stored outside for 25 years and back then auto paint was not as strong as it is today. So none of the cars were painted anymore. They were all one color: surface rust. And if you tried to dicker with him he just said he would sooner crush them before he would sell at less than his price. So they sat there and then he died. And his family crushed them all out in order to clean up the land so it could be sold. So this crushing threat is not new. It's just dumb. One salvage guy I once knew sold stuff for whatever offer he could get. Other dealers made fun of him for not holding out for more but he would just tell them, "Mine are gone but you still have yours." |

And then there are the owners who won't sell but will let one sit until it rusts into the ground. Often they say "I'm going to fix it up".

I just bought a 170D not too long ago, along with so many parts I had to get a friend to store the, including some pre-war and some for post-war (Adenauers). The family was glad he got rid of them. They told him he had 6 months to get rid of them or he would be disinherited from the family business. He didn't believe them until he got an invitation to a meeting with the family and the family lawyers. Then I got a call. haven't sorted them yet.

Well, they're MY rusty hulks, and fortunately, I can't be 'disinherited from the family business"!
