Notice that the driver of the front car has confidence in the system. He stays in his car.

This is not really a self drive car, just some safety features to help.
wut vid?

If we go the way of Europe, then older cars wont be retired by mandate, but will be taxed and inspected more heavily, effectively doing the same thing

Darwinism at work.

Who in their right mind would take their sight off the road? Watching DVD, possibly but is speculation at this stage.

I trust the self driving car far more than any of you luddites. That's why I bought one.

Imagine the day when the majority if not all vehicles are self driving. Will there be more or fewer traffic fatalities?

They'll simply be retired the same way old cars are retired today. The few that remain will make up such a small proportion of the population they'll be irrelevant. Think of the cars in California that are not subject to smog check (gassers pre 1974, diesels pre 1997). Yes a few still exist and they likely pollute a lot more than the other cars on the road but who gives a ****?

There will be many yet unknown causes of these steering correction systems malfunctioning. Trust should not be total in them. Besides the obvious anything man makes will and can break at some point.

The sensory inputs of a human are far greater in number than what these systems use. Actually in comparison the self steers have very few in comparison.

No explanation has been given yet of why the Mercedes did a sudden right turn into a guard rail and flipped over only to be hit by a following vehicle yet.

Mercedes advertising seemed to indicate that you must have both hands on the wheel or the system disengages. Personally I never drive on the highway using both hands. Yet even both hands on the wheel is still no guarantee that the driver is really paying attention to what is occurring. .

My daughter refuses to use the system on their new car.
